The Cruise

6:00 PM to 7:30 PM – The Cruise

This cult favorite is centered on the unique worldview and personality of New York City bus tour guide Timothy “Speed” Levitch, who later had brief appearances in Waking Life and School of Rock.

Timothy Levitch is profiled in this documentary that is basically a seventy-six-minute rant about what Levitch sees and what he thinks of his life in the city. Director Bennett Miller films him as a tourist would with a video camera-that is to say, poorly-but Levitch’s rich use of poetic language and imagery provides a strong counterpart. If Levitch seems a little unhinged at times-there’s a desperation and ugliness to some of his musings that is disturbing to watch-he’s still a fascinating, delusional raconteur. His travelogue is never glib, and often very funny.

The Pharmacratic Inquisition

Wednesday, November 7th in the TA ( HCL 8 )

Forward Escape is back with one of the most blasphemous and heretical documentaries to date. If you’ve ever wondered whether Jesus Christ was a psychedelic fungi here’s your chance to find out. In truth, this documentary is a wonderful tour through Astrotheology, Religions, Shamanism, and the theories of John Marco Allegro, the first British representative on the international team who worked on the Dead Sea Scrolls.

5 PM- The Pharmacratic Inquisition (120 min)

Thousands of years ago, in the pre monarchic era, psychedelic/entheogenic substances where publicly known world wide, and respected for their ability to bring forth the divine, Yahweh, God, The Great Spirit, etc. by the many cultures who used them. Often the entire tribe or community would partake in the Entheogenic rites. These rites were often used in initiation into adulthood, for healing, to help guide the community in the decision process, and to bring the direct religious experience to anyone seeking it, that might take these psychedelic sacraments properly. Crusades were fought, Inquisitions were enacted, and the so-called “Pagan” or country people lost their lives for their Shamanic beliefs. This happened not only in Europe and the Middle East, but in the Americas under the Spanish Inquisition as well.

An Evening of Two Evils

22 09 2007

Codex Gigas

Wednesday, September 26th in the TA

5 PM- The Root of All Evil: Part 1 (48 Min)

Written and presented by Richard Dawkins, this documentary film argues that the world would be better off without religion. Dawkins’s book The God Delusion, released after this film, goes on to examine the topics raised in the documentary in greater detail. Dawkins argues that “the process of non-thinking called faith” is not a way of understanding the world, but instead stands in fundamental opposition to modern science and the scientific method, and is divisive and dangerous.

At the very least come see Richard Dawkins confront the evangelical mega-church preacher Ted Haggard. Coincidentally ‘Pastor Ted’ resigned one month after the release of this film due to admitting to allegations of his homosexual relations and purchase of methamphetamine from a male prostitute.

6PM – The History of the Devil (55 min)

The notion of the devil does not originate in the Bible, as many may think – In the Old Testament, Satan is just another one of God’s servants. This documentary film follows the history of our notion of the devil. Beginning with Zarathustra, continuing to the middle east, the Jewish world, the Roman empire, the middle ages, the 18th century, through to the 20th century and today. This is an intriguing exploration of a dualistic form of thinking.
